Taylor is a celebrated innovator in the bourbon industry, from setting up businesses to the financing of several distilleries. Using his banking and financial experience, Taylor purchased a small Leestown distillery that he modernized and expanded Among his innovations were copper fermentation tanks, state-of-the-art grain equipment, column stills, modernized buildings, a more efficient sour mash technique and a steam heating system still used in the barrel warehouses today. As a politician, serving as Mayor, Taylor advocated for the bourbon industry, Taylor fought fighting for higher standards and was instrumental in the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. EH Taylor Distillery, otherwise known as O.F.C, was purchased by George T. Stagg in 1879 and is now known as the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
