About Silver Oak
Silver Oak was founded in 1972 by Justin Meyer and Ray Twomey Duncan in Napa Valley. Their decision to age exclusively in American oak, not French, set Silver Oak apart from the start. American oak gives the wine its signature vanilla and toast character and produces a softer, more approachable Cabernet that doesn't require years of cellaring before it's enjoyable.
The winery produces two Cabernets: the Alexander Valley (Sonoma County) and the Napa Valley. Both are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Alexander Valley is the more approachable of the two, with forward fruit and smooth tannins. The Napa Valley is fuller, denser, and more structured. Both age well but are consistently drinkable young.
Silver Oak doesn't chase ratings cycles or produce reserve tiers. The focus has always been on making one wine per appellation and making it well, every year. That consistency is part of what makes it a reliable gift.
A personalized Silver Oak, engraved with a name, date, or message, is one of the few wine gifts where the recipient will recognize the label before they read your inscription. It works for retirements, anniversaries, executive thank-yous, and milestone birthdays. The large-format bottles, 1.5L and 3L, make a statement for group celebrations or centerpiece gifting.
