2021 Dunn Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Dunn Vineyards is one of Napa's great traditionalists. Randy Dunn founded the winery in 1979 on Howell Mountain, and not much has changed since. The wines are made with a light touch — no tricks, no heavy oak, just the fruit from old vines grown in volcanic mountain soil doing what it does. The 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet is tighter and more structured than the flashier valley-floor Cabs you see everywhere. Expect dark fruit, dried herbs, gravel, and a long, dry finish with real backbone.

This is a wine that rewards patience. It's good now with food and significant decanting, but if you can hold a bottle for five or ten years, it becomes something genuinely special. Vinous scored it 93+ and noted layers of tannin around dark fruit, spice, lavender, and charred earth — classic Dunn.
